Michael Hayes has over 35 years aviation experience, which commenced as a licensed Air Traffic Controller in 1980 in Australia, with an Associate Diploma in Air Traffic Science. During his time in Australia, he worked all ATC ratings including Aerodrome, Approach and Enroute throughout most of the east coast of Australia, being responsible for conducting ATC Operations and supervisory duties. In 1998, he transferred to Abu Dhabi as an Enroute Controller. For the past 17 years, Mike has worked in the UAE, in controlling, supervisory and senior training roles, with particular emphasis in supporting the ATC Emiratisation Programme. In 2004, he was promoted to Chief Regulations Officer with the GCAA, tasked with creating the air navigation regulations department. During his 12 years as manager of regulations, he has been a catalyst in driving the maturation of air navigation regulations within the UAE. His motivated, balanced, process driven approach, remains a key enabler towards continued development of the Air Navigation Regulatory Oversight Activities in the disciplines of Air Traffic Services, Airspace Development, Communication Navigation and Surveillance, Aeronautical Information Management, Aviation Meteorology and Search and Rescue.
